How to Find and Delete Your Most Downvoted Reddit Comments
Everyone has a few Reddit comments they'd rather didn't exist - the hot takes that aged badly, the arguments that went sideways, the opinions that got dogpiled. The problem is Reddit doesn't let you sort your own comment history by karma, so your worst comments are buried somewhere in years of history. Here's how to surface them and delete them in bulk.
Why downvoted comments are a privacy risk
Downvoted comments aren't just embarrassing - they're often the most risky content in your history. Controversial takes attract attention. Arguments often involve disclosing personal details in the heat of the moment. Comments in politically charged threads can follow you into real life if your account is ever linked to your identity.
Hiring managers, journalists, and online stalkers typically look for the most controversial content first. A comment with -200 karma in a political subreddit is exactly the kind of thing that gets screenshotted, shared, and used against someone. Even if it was years ago and you've changed your mind, the comment is still sitting there, publicly visible, attached to your username.

How to find and delete downvoted Reddit comments
Download Wipe for Reddit
Download the free desktop app for macOS, Windows, or Linux. Everything runs locally on your machine.
Sign in and load your comment history
Sign in with your Reddit account. The app fetches your full comment and post history. After the first load, it's cached locally for instant access on future visits.
Sort by lowest karma to find your worst comments
In the Comments tab, use the sort dropdown and choose "Least karma." Your most downvoted comments jump to the top. This is the fastest way to find the content most likely to cause problems.
Review, select, and delete
Scroll through and select the comments you want to remove. You can also combine karma sorting with subreddit filtering - for example, delete all downvoted comments from a specific subreddit. Click Delete Selected to remove them.
Does deleting downvoted comments restore your karma?
No. Reddit calculates karma at the time of voting. Once a comment has been downvoted, deleting it doesn't reverse the karma loss. Your total karma score stays the same. However, deleting does stop the comment from collecting additional downvotes - so if a comment is still actively being downvoted, deleting it cuts the bleeding.
The real value of deleting downvoted comments isn't about karma - it's about removing content that could be embarrassing, identifying, or professionally damaging. A comment at -5 sitting in a thread from 2019 might be harmless. A comment at -500 in a controversial thread is the one that ends up in a screenshot.
Use the Insights dashboard to spot problem areas
Before you start deleting, check the Insights dashboard. It shows your karma breakdown by subreddit - so you can instantly see which communities are costing you the most karma. If one subreddit is dragging your score down, that's a sign to do a targeted cleanup there.
You can click any subreddit in the chart to jump directly to those comments, already filtered and ready to review. If you're planning a full cleanup rather than just removing the worst offenders, check out our guides on deleting all Reddit comments or the full account deletion workflow.
